A local community in Oklahoma will be holding their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, November 16, 2006. Festivities include;? singing by local school choirs and free hot chocolate and cookies.? After the Christmas Lighting, area merchants will host their annual Christmas Open House. The chamber will sponsor a gift basket giveaway to encourage people to shop in hopes of winning a basket full of gifts and gift certificates worth hundreds of dollars.

Several hundred volunteers gathered at Ocean View Elementary School in Arroyo Grande earlier this month for a massive beautification project. Fences and doors were painted, gardens pruned, shrubbery trimmed and a mural of the school mascot painted as locals and visitors rallied to make the school one of local pride. The project? was part of an effort to beautify school campuses nationwide,? by the Albertsons/Sav-on Pharmacy Associates.The elementary was selected as one of 20 schools in California and Nevada to receive donated time of Albertsons associates from throughout the state. A $5,000 check was given to the school to purchase holiday gift baskets for families in need.

People were excited by? ”Puttin’ on the Ritz,” Exeter Hospital Associates’ sixth annual Harvest of Elegance Basket Raffle fund-raiser. Exeter Hospital Associates,? has worked four decades to raise funds to assist the hospital purchase equipment, new services and programs, and outreach efforts.This year’s Harvest of Elegance’s proceeds raised via admission to the event, and the raffling of 93 themed baskets, will be donated to the Center for Cancer Care at Exeter Hospital. The 2005 event raised $19,600 and benefited the radiation and oncology/hematology departments.

Joyce Wisz of Johnstown, PA is giving the most precious gift of all to a friend, which is the gift of life. Jennifer Miller, who has battled diabetes since childhood, will receive a kidney from Wisz on Oct. 30 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. When she was proven a match, Wisz sat her? children down and told them of her plan to donate a kidney. Miller said she is beyond grateful for what Wisz is doing for her and her family. Family, friends and staff of the Church of the Brethren Home held a fundraiser to help with costs both families will be facing. Staff members also held bake sales, sold chances? to win gift? baskets and had an ice cream sundae sale in order to raise funds.
