Brenda Hagen and a group of friends? from? Conejo Valley, CA, are constantly on? the lookout for supplies to decorate baskets and food and toys to fill them. During? Easter and? the holiday season, the group distributes baskets of goodies to seniors and children in need. In March and December, Hagen hosts work parties where members of the group? decorate the baskets while others pack them with gifts. More than 150 baskets go to Senior Concerns to distribute through its Meals on Wheels program. Other baskets? are destined for a group of homes for disabled children.? Hagen? enjoys? seeing smiles and happy tears of the gift basket recipients.

Local residents of Des Moines, IA,? will be bidding on baskets at the Dallas Center library filled with items like popcorn, hot cocoa, wine, gift certificates and knitting equipment. The auction is a fundraiser tied to the local Christmas celebration, which includes events that will be held at the library.? Money raised from the auction will be used to purchase an LCD projector for the library. Individuals, not-for-profit organizations and businesses make the gift baskets that are auctioned off.? Fifty baskets are being auctioned. Various gift basket? categories include? children’s, where the children decorated baskets; a wine basket; an upside-down umbrella with everything you need in it for a rainy day; baskets for a family night at home, and even girls’ night out.? All gifts have been donated by members of the community.

It’s reported that Norton isn’t happy with the gifts celebrities get at the? ceremony while people watching the shows are struggling to get food and pay rent. He said: “A lot of us have talked to the producers of the? Academy Award? about the issue? and I think they’re actually going to cut out the gift baskets.” He also mentions that these gift baskets are worth? huge amounts? of money that a low-income family could live on for a year,? but are given to? people who have so much already.?

The township of East Brunswick in New Jersey? is holding its annual holiday food and gift basket program. Individuals, groups or organizations are being asked to adopt needy families? in the local area? and provide them with food and/or gift baskets for the upcoming Christmas and Hanukkah holidays. Gift certificates or gift cards to local grocery or department stores are also encouraged to be purchased for distribution to those in need. All adoptions will be kept strictly confidential.
