Ocean Spray employees created unique and creative gift baskets to? helped raise $5,100 for local charities. The gift baskets were part of a contest involving all departments at Ocean Spray’s headquarters. Each team create a themed? gift baskets, while employees? voted for the winner by buying raffle tickets.?  Ocean Spray’s HR coordinator, came up with the idea of the basket contest thinking it would be a great activity for employees while raising money for those less fortunate.

A Canyon Lake Middle School??™s physical education department is hosting a Health and Fitness Expo in early March. Their goal is? is to encourage students and their families to get active and healthy, as well as to raise money for the Physical Education? department.? Local sports and fitness organizations and businesses will set up booths with information about what they have to offer for students and their families in the community. Demonstrations will also be held throughout the day.? Those attending the Expo will be able to buy tickets for a drawing, as well as bid on various gift? baskets in a silent auction. All? monies raised will go to the CLMS Physical Education Department to purchase much needed permanent shade tarps, soccer goals and other equipment that will benefit the students.?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and Internal Revenue Service have reached an agreement on settling tax obligations for Golden Globe gift baskets.? HFPA said it didn’t seem fair to ask those who had donated their services to pay additional tax after they have already filed tax returns for those years and agreed to pay taxes on gift baskets given to presenters in 2004 and 2005. Celebrities who picked up Golden Globe baskets valued at $40,000 each last year were sent an IRS 1099 form and will have to pay tax on those gifts.

Each year during? Christmas, the Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, in Pennsylvania, employees contribute money and time to purchase and prepare the contents of baskets to fill with food and gifts for area families in need. This year 27 local families benefited from the employees??™ generosity. The gift baskets are distributed just before the Christmas holiday. This year’s event was coordinated by Louise Yakuboski of the Pastoral Care Department, with help from chaplain Jim Clyde.
